Hot Weather and Your Plumbing in Marin County

Most people are aware of how cold weather can affect their plumbing, however, there are also dangers with extremely hot weather as well. In California we’ve been experiencing record temperatures year over year. Being aware of how this can affect your plumbing can help prevent disasters in your home or business.

Leaks during hot weather

In Marin where we have extended periods of time without rain (and with California notoriously known for being in a state of drought) can cause the ground to dry out and your home to settle. This can cause cracks in the cement foundation and cracks in the main water line or other exposed pipes. It’s important to check your pipes for visible cracks and have them repaired immediately to not waste water.

Slow draining

During hot weather spells you may notice your sinks and showers/bath tubs are draining slower than usual.  Rainfall in the winter and spring helps foster the growth of tree roots and other plant matter. This vegetation can clog your main water line and cause slow drainage throughout your Marin home or business. If you have multiple drains draining slower than usual, your main sewer line is likely the culprit.

Lower than normal water pressure

The combined factors of your pipes potentially cracking and your sewer line having plant matter clog it can leave you with lower water pressure in the long dry months of the year. If you notice this in your home, you should call a plumber to come out and investigate.
